The Actual Assesment Task

 Your task is as follows:

 

Please read the instructions and guidlines CAREFULLY!!!

 

Rob Sitch has created a comical, satire of the media and their representations through Frontline. Now it is your turn.

 

The Episode, "Add Sex And Stir" shows how certian quotes, events and situations are manipulated by the media to express a certain aspect of a story, true or not.

 

In your family group you will be given a story, only you will know if it is a true or false topic. It is your job to complete the following tasks to convince your peers of your headline.

 

The headlines are:

 

1. "Sport's favourite's a party favourite: bathroom trips, agitation and suspicious white powder?"

 

2. "Up and Coming Teen Heart Throb Swings Which Way???"                                                            

 

3. "Powerful Leader "Borrows" Power"                                                                                                

 

4. "Global Warming Just a Warning! How Much Is Fact?"

Using your assigned story you are to:                                                                                                               WEIGHTING

 

1. Recreate and  film an interview with your person of interest OR your particular issue to show your peers.                                    20%

     You must include: 

  • A transcript of the interview, provided on the wiki
  • Relevant and important infomation that you 'discovered' about your particular issue or person of interest.
  • Questioning is to be in a formal manner, try to aviod the use of colloquialisms.
  • Make the Questions as intresting and as 'probing' as possible (REMEMBER- The infomation you gather from the interview will be used as the basis for your article!)      
  • To help you think back to the frontline episode 'Add sex and Stir'. Think about the techniques used by Brooke.       

 

2. Write a 1000 word article on your headline and the infomation gathered from the interview.                        20%

     You must include:

  •  Infomation gathered from the interview. you may also feel the need to attain more infomation through extra research, just to give you some background knowledge about the issue.
  • The article MUST remain in the style and format of a Newspaper/ Magazine article. You have been provided with scaffolds and examples on the following pages. (If the article does not comply to the appropriate style your mark may suffer!!)             

 

3. Include multiple pictures (photoshopped or not) to support your headline and article.                                    20%

     You must include:

  •     More than four pictures to help aid you in the creation of your story. 

 

4. The entirity of your process must be journaled on this wiki under you assigned group page.                           30%

    You Must includ

  •  Entries must be of reflective practice and each is to be at least an A4 page in length. 
  • You must talk about the difficulties you faced and how you overcame them. Comparitivly if you could not overcome them WHY?
  • what did you learn from the contribution you made?

IN YOUR FINAL ENTRY STUDENTS ARE TO:                                                                                                                     10%

  • Give examples of the most enjoyable aspect of the assignment.
  • why did you enjoy this?
  • what have you learnt from this experience?
  • has this assignment contributed to your new understanding of what it is to 'Tell the Truth' and 'Distort the Truth'?
    This entry must be detailed and at a critique level. You should talk in depth about aspects of the assignment that where difficult and how the technologies avilailable to you helped ease you into this assignment.
     
    A FINAL QUESTION:
    DO YOU THINK THAT IF THIS ASSIGNMENT WHERE TO BE DONE AND SUMBITTED ON HARD COPY (i.e. handed to your teacher via paper copies) IT WOULD HAVE BEEN AS EFFECTIVE AND YOU WOULD HAVE LEARNT AND UNDERSTOOD AT THE SAME LEVEL?
