The aim of this assignment is to associate and engage both students and parents with web 2.0. Web 2.0 is an innovative wave of technology adding more appropriate educational value to the world wide web.
Students access the internet everyday, wether it be for educational or pleasure activities. Often parents will catch their child on ‘MySpace’, ‘Facebook’ or other sites talking to friends, when infact they are meant to be doing their schoolwork. This is the future for schoolwork. Students themselves paved the way for innovative educational programs that they not only will enjoy using but that they are very capable of using.
To me education is about collaboration, so it is hard to imagine that students sitting at computers is collaborative. Web 2.0 incorporates this idea of collaboration. With web 2.0 it is vital that students work together to achieve high levels of academic work. They must share ideas, help other students find information appropriate to topic.
The best part about web 2.0 is it is interactive, visual and always changing. It is always being updated and it is always growing. Web 2.0 allows students access to video clips, pictures, online voice chats, and interactive infomation.
As this is the way that education is heading, I thought it would be an effective assignment to do, as students have been emersing themselves with 'Truth Telling' by watching the ABC TV series, 'Frontline'. Not only will students need to engage in this assignment but it is important for parents to also take part. Parents will be taught by their child, ways to access educational infomation through main stream sites such as Youtube and Flickr. Not only will this assignment address the necessary syllabus outcomes, but will introduce both parents and students to the vital educational world of Web 2.0.
It is important for parents to be involved with the students education, this assignment gives parents this opportunity.
under various heading for this assignment you will find infomation regarding tasks and outcomes. guidelines have been set up under 'Assesment task' and students/ parents need to complete their task under their assigned group pages. Groups will also find examples of structures of articles to help with the set up.
Enjoy working on your assignments!
GOOD LUCK IN THE WORLD OF WEB 2.0!!!
