Introduction to the elective
This module, Representation and Text, focuses on how meaning is represented and how the medium, form, perspective and language devices of different texts affect the meaning they carry. The central focus is an understanding of the relationships between representation and meaning, the processes that construct and colour the text in the choices the composers have made.
It is then a task of exploring the way a composer's meaning is portrayed through texts, and examining the effect different factors of the process have on the final meaning communicated. In Telling the Truth you are asked to look more specifically at the processes by which statements come to be presented and accepted as true.

This module, Representation and Text, requires the study of one prescribed text FRONTLINE, plus a selection of additional texts of your own choosing. These additional texts should provide a variety of representations of the idea and should be drawn from a variety of sources, in a range of audiences and media. What this means for you if you are undertaking Telling the Truth is that you must collect a number of other texts that throw light on the some of the issues raised in the unit. While it is probable your teacher will introduce a selection of additional texts it is important that you make your own collection. So for this reason you are to work online in a collaborative manner using a wiki to store and share your learning.
